Hello. My name is Mrs. Weiss. I am so excited to be teaching first
grade again this year at Grove Valley! This promises to
be a great year of fun and learning.
I graduated from the University of Virginia in 1992 with a B.A. in
History and American Studies and a Master's of Teaching
degree. My experience in teaching children includes
third, fifth, and sixth grades. I have also taught
elementary art and English as a Second Language. I have
completed three years of teaching first grade in
Virginia. I taught one year of first grade at Prairie
Vale and first grade last year at Grove Valley. Outside
of the classroom I have been a Girl Scout leader,
scrapbook instructor, and religious education teacher
for grades 1-3.
I have been trained in the STEPs to Literacy reading method, have
attended the Reading First Academy, and Reading with
Meaning workshops. I am versed in AIMS methods of math
and science, Marilyn Burns math strategies, and
INVESTIGATIONS hands-on math. I have been trained in
Responsive Classroom and Great Expectations this summer.
I am so excited about all that the Oklahoma curriculum
has to offer, and I can't wait to teach it again this
year!
Over the years I have traveled extensively with my husband and
three children. Destinations have included Florida,
Virginia, Massachusetts, Arizona, Washington, Oregon,
Colorado, Ohio, Texas, Nevada, Hawaii, Iceland, Germany,
The Netherlands, Austria, and the Virgin Islands, with
more to come.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year! We have so much learning
to do!
